Lakes in Kenya
Kenya shimmers with magnificent lakes that are either fresh water lakes or Soda lakes. Nearly all the lakes in Kenya form part of the Great Rift Valley Lakes System, a natural property of outstanding natural beauty and diversity.Major lakes in Kenya include; Lake Victoria, the second largest fresh water lake in the world, Lake Turkana – the crocodile infested Jaded Desert Sea; Lake Nakuru – famous for the tens of thousands flamingos, wading birds and other bird species that thrive on it as well a huge diversity of wild animals and scenic beauty; Lake Naivasha which is a beautiful freshwater lake on the floor of the Rift Valley, Lake Bogoria a shallow alkaline lake which is volcanically active and is lined up with geysers spouting hot steam and bubbling geothermal pools.
Other lakes in Kenya include; Lake Magadi—the second largest source of soda ash in the world, Lake Elementaita and home to a prolific bird species, and Lake Baringo – the other freshwater lake beside Lake Victoria, ideal for spotting many species of birds;
